Akismet is a plugin which is a standard fixture of wordpress blogs. It requires an API key from wordpress.com to work and its function is to reduce the amount of spam which your blog will be burdoned with. Akismet automatically catches anything which it regards as a spam comment and requires approval from the blog owner. It can also automatically delete spam comments after a period of 30 days.
